Nicolas

Nicolas, a native Spanish speaker from Peru and founder of Spanish Black Belt, acquired a strong passion for tutoring since his early days in high school. Back then he tutored Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics to other students his age. Nicolas carries a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Vanderbilt University. Besides his full time responsibilities as General Manager, he continues to tutor to stay close to the needs of our students.

Mely

Mely, a native Spanish speaker from Peru, works for Spanish Black Belt as a full-time Spanish Instructor. Mely holds a Bachellor's degree in Education from Universidad Nacional de San Agustin, and a Diplomado in Tutorial Education from Universidad Catolica San Pablo in Arequipa, Peru. Ms. Huarhua and has extensive experience as a Spanish teacher: she has taught at the University of San Agustin Language Center, the Jean Paul Sartre Elementary School, the Alexander Fleming High School and the Maria Montessori Institute in Peru.

Mariella

Mariella, a fully bilingual native Spanish speaker from Peru, holds a BA in Education from Universidad Federico Villarreal in Lima, Peru.

Prior to coming to the US, Mariella accumulated over 5 years of professional experience teaching Spanish at elementary and high schools and a university in Peru. Once in the US, Mariella worked as a Spanish teacher at the Claremont Immersion Elementary School in Arlington and at the George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. She later joined Spanish Black Belt as a part-time tutor and now lives in the Baltimore area.

On her free time, Mariella enjoys cooking peruvian dishes, riding bicycle, and listening to music.

Kasey

Kasey, a fully bilingual Spanish speaker from the US, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Roanoke College and a Teaching License for Virginia. Kasey, a real languages prodigy, participated in a two-semester international student exchange program in Universidad Popular Autonoma del Estado de Puebla en Mexico and lived briefly in Salamanca, Spain.

Prior to joining Spanish Black Belt, Kasey worked as Spanish Teacher for William Byrd High School in Roanoke teaching Spanish levels 2, 3, 4 and Advanced Placement. Kasey is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at Georgetown University in Spanish linguistics and adult second language acquisition. His current research interests include syntax, teaching methodology, differentiated instruction and cognition.

In his free time he enjoys traveling abroad, spending time with family and friends, exploring the city, reading and writing poetry and short stories, and discussing current events.

Denise

Denise, a native Spanish speaker from Argentina, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Belgrano University in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Denise tutors adults and kids. Prior to joining Spanish Black Belt, she worked in marketing research for several organizations in Argentina and the US. In addition to tutoring, Denise currently works as a volunteer at the Latin American Development Corporation teaching basic computer skills to Hispanic immigrants and as a reporter covering restaurants and current events for DC Latino, a Hispanic TV show aired in Univision.

On her free time, Denise enjoys dancing tango, spending time with her family, and doing outdoor activities.

Ia

Ia, a native Spanish speaker from Spain, holds a PhD in Biochemistry and a Teaching Certification from University of Cordoba in Spain.

Ia tutors adults, teens, and kids. Prior to joining Spanish Black Belt, Ia worked for Berlitz School of Languages in West Hartford, and was a private tutor in Spanish, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, and a professor of doctorate, freshmen and sophomore courses at University of Cordoba.

On her free time, Ia enjoys traveling, spending time with her family and cooking Spanish tapas.

Luis

Luis, a native Spanish speaker from El Salvador, tutors adults, teens, and kids. Prior to joining Spanish Black Belt, Luis worked as a volunteer Spanish translator for Harrisonburg Court and has been tutor of Math and Sciences. He has also received several awards in his career.

Luis received his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 2004 and completed his Master of Science in Integrated Science and Technology at James Madison University (JMU) in 2006.

On his free time, Luis enjoys cycling and other outdoor sports.

Natalia

Natalia, a native Spanish speaker from Peru, works for Spanish Black Belt as a Spanish Instructor with both adults and kids. She holds a Certificate of Translation and Interpretation from English Language Academy in Lima, Peru.

Prior roles Natalia adopted while working in the corporate world include Bilingual Administrative Assistant, Interpreter and Translator, and Bilingual Customer Service Representative.

On her free time, Natalia enjoys singing Karaoke, swimming and spending time with her family.

Marly

Marly, a native Spanish speaker from Colombia, tutors adults, teens and kids. Prior experience includes tutoring Spanish and math, and preparing college students for placement examinations.

Marly is currently studying Finance and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Maryland. She holds an AA in General Studies and Business from Montgomery College.

On her free time, Marly enjoys dancing and playing the drums with a local band.

Juan Carlos

Juan Carlos, a fully bilingual native Spanish speaker from Mexico, tutors adults, teens and kids on a part-time basis. Prior experience includes tutoring English as a second language in two educational institutions in Mexico City.

Juan Carlos holds a BA in International Studies from Universidad de Guadalajara in Mexico and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in International Studies from City University of New York. He works on a full-time basis as International Credential Evaluator for World Education Services in NY.

In his free time, Juan Carlos enjoys outdoor sports and spending time with his friends in New York City.

Paola

Paola, a native Spanish speaker from Chile, tutors adults, teens and kids. Prior to joining Spanish Black Belt Paola worked during several years as Teacher Assistant for Playa Ancha University in Valparaiso, Chile, Journalist/TV reporter for Puntangeles TV and La Hora newspaper, and Spanish editor for Cachai Chile, a Chilean bilingual travel Magazine.

Paola holds a BA in Communications and a MA in Journalism from Universidad de Playa Ancha. In her free time, Paola enjoys outdoor sports and spending time with her friends in Denver CO.

Joao

Joao, a native Spanish speaker from Chile, tutors adults, teens, kids and organizations. His experience includes working as freelance Spanish tutor, simultaneous interpreter, and communications coordinator.

Joao holds a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Universidad de Artes y Ciencias Sociales in Chile. In his free time, Joao enjoys cycling, listening to music, and spending time with his family and friends.

Oscar

Oscar, a native Spanish speaker from Peru, tutors adults, teens, kids and organizations. His prior experience includes working as a Spanish teacher at a small school and at church, and as Interpreter, Translator and Bilingual Customer Service Representative in the corporate world.

In his free time, Oscar enjoys playing soccer, participating in video game tournaments, and spending time with his family and friends in Northern Virginia.

Juan Antonio

Juan Antonio, a native Spanish speaker from Mexico, tutors adults and organizations. Prior to joining Spanish Black Belt Juan Antonio worked as co-founder and managing director for 100% Mexico in Washington DC, a mexican franchise, and as outreach worker and case management specialist for the Alexandria Health Department and the Hopkins House Association.

In his free time, Juan Antonio enjoys outdoor sports, going out dancing, and spending time with his friends in Washington DC.
